Angura Kei

Angura Kei (アングラ系) - style, which originated in the 60s. It was created by manga artists in independent theathes. Word "angura" is a Japanese equivalent of the word "underground". Bands representing Angura Kei are for example Kagrra,, Kiryu and heidi..

Angura Kei is influenced mostly by traditional Japanese music. Bands used to also take a lot of inspirations from Japanese theatre. Musicians wear kimonos or clothes similar to them, suits or school uniforms.

Bands from this trend play music different from the current fashion, often having not much in common with Visual Kei. Music has a dark feeling to it, lyrics are mostly about past and nostalgia. It is still focusing on Japan and problems of Japanese society (Isshi writing lyrics about abortion, mafia, commercialism, suicide and evil world in general).

Underground music has an opinion of being outside the borders set by the popculture and censorship and lyrics often touch on aesthtic, social, cultural or political taboo themes. Songs have no English words or tiltes (unless the bands don't like signs with which the word is written down - greetings to Isshi, Akiya, Shin, Nao and Izumi).

Recommended bands and songs (systematically updated):

Order - fast/dark song, ballad, song breaking the general rule

Kagrra, - "Sakebi", "Shiki", "Boufura"

heidi. - "Moment", "Kanata", "Yokan"

Zin - "Honoo no Tomoshibi", "Sono kokoro", "Hiai"

Belle - "Yattenai", "Kumo no ito", "Aishuu Elegy"
